DLP Lamp in Casing
The lamp is the cheapest and most common repair for a DLP or LCD projection TV. You can replace this yourself and save hundreds of dollars. The logical first step if your TV is not working correctly is to replace the lamp. Our TV technician has to eliminate the lamp first as the source of a problem. After replacing the lamp per the instructions:
- You should first check to make you sure you have the TV plugged into the wall outlet. Make sure that you have the lamp door put back on securely. Next, you should unplug the TV and leave it unplugged for 1 minute. After 1 minute, plug the TV back in. Following the previous procedure resets the control system of the TV. If your TV still does not turn on, continue to the next step.
- First, make sure the lamp is properly installed in the housing and it is fit and screwed in the TV completely. If the TV is still doing this, the problem is usually one of two things.
- It could be the lamp or the ballast. The indicator lights on the TV may be flashing a code that means the lamp is defective, but the TV is flashing that code only because the lamp did not strike. The TV has no way of knowing if the lamp is good or bad. If you have replaced the lamp and it is still doing it, you should contact who you bought the lamp from for a warranty claim.
- If you eliminate the lamp as the problem then it usually is the ballast. The buzzing sound is the ballast trying to start the lamp. The ballast may not be producing enough voltage to start the lamp. A ballast is a part you will likely not want to replace yourself, we recommend that you contact a trained/certified TV technician for servicing.
