Warranty Information
There is in-home service on all big screen models, which have warranties of 30 days for screens and one year for parts and labor. The LCD televisions have a one year warranty on parts and one year on labor with carry-in service. For plasma sets, in-home service is available on all models. There is a one year warranty on parts and one year on labor. The faulty thermal sensor, mentioned in the commmon repairs section, is now covered by an extended 2 year warranty, as is the problem related to the optical engine.

Common Repairs
For the following models: WD-52631, WD-57731, WD-65731, WD-Y57, WD-Y65, WD-57732, WD-65732, WD-57831, WD-65831, the most common repair problem stems from television shutting off almost immediately after it has been turned on accompanied by the message, “TV will shut down in a few seconds. Please check if the air flow is blocked.” According to the Mitsubishi website, this issue is caused by a loose connection as a result of a faulty thermal sensor. For models: WD-73727, WD-73827, WD-73927, WD-73732, WD-7383, the most encountered repair problem has been in relation to the optical engine. Another common situation consumers have encountered is failure of the TV to turn on along with unceasing flashing of the green power light. The solution for this problem, caused by the DM board, will vary by repairman. Consumers have also encountered issues with moving vertical or horizontal lines appearing on the screen which can either be due to problems with the capacitor, light engine, or formatter board.

 From the age of 20, I typically bought a $125.00 vacuum that would last a year or two, then buy another, repeating the process. It always seemed that some cheap plastic part would break, or the unit would simply lose suction. Worse, these cheap vacuums would kick-out dust everywhere. Therefore, I appreciate the fact that the Dyson we use at home is nearly 5 years old and still looks and operates like new. I will never miss the days of the smelly, dusty vacuums that end up being nothing but landfill in two years or less. For this reason, I do consider the Dyson a “Green” product.

Many customers ask; “which is your favorite model”. This brings up the point that we use a DC14 Animal at home. However, this is not to say that the DC14 vacuum is our favorite Dyson, we simply have no reason to move into a new Dyson model. We use a Dyson DC28 in our showroom for regular cleaning. I do favor the DC28 over the DC14 vacuum. From experience, the DC28 handles a wider range of floor types and offers a switch to turn off the brush bar within a finger reach. Dyson equipped the DC28 with two motors, one for suction and one for the brush bar. This allows the vacuum suction to be constant. It is also equipped with Dyson’s new Airmuscle Technology that reduces suction loss and ensures the brushroll deep cleans carpet fibers.

Beyond the DC14 & DC28 models, Dyson offers several other canister and upright vacuum models with updates and improvements over an already great design. You may notice that the higher the model number, the newer the model. Presently, the DC28 is the newest Dyson model. The first mass marketed Dyson vacuum in the USA was the DC07 Upright, then followed by the DC14 Upright, DC15 Ball Upright, DC16 Handheld, DC17 Upright, DC18 Slim Upright, DC21 Canister vacuum, DC22 Turbine Head & Motorhead Canisters with Dyson’s new Digital Motor Technolgy, DC23 Turbinehead & Motorhead Canisters, DC24 Lightweight upright, DC25 Ball Upright, and then the DC28 upright vacuum with Airmuscle Technology.

Out of the current Dyson vacuum line-up, I favor the Dyson DC25 vacuum  for overall design and performance and Ball Technology. However, the DC28 model truly ties as a favorite with superior Airmuscle cleaning technology, but does not offer the Dyson Ball Technology. The DC25 is a few pounds lighter than previous models, slightly smaller, but still offers full size clean width and power. The fully motorized brush bar works well across all carpet types, and the on/off switch allows the user to turn off the brush roll on hard floor surfaces. The vacuum also uses Dyson’s ball design, with parking improvements over the DC15, and reduction in the size of the ball. The DC25 is a happy medium that seems to be a great hit among users. We have had nothing but positive feedback on this vacuum.  

If it helps, I have included a brief summary below of each vacuum in the Dyson vacuum model line:

Dyson DC07 Upright Vacuum (no longer available / phased-out): Dyson’s first vacuum introduced into the US market. Great basic model and quite a performer for basic floor cleaning needs. This vacuum is being phased out by Dyson, but still sells with a 5 year warranty.     

Dyson DC14 Upright Vacuum (available in All Floors models only): This vacuum has several upgrades over the DC07; including an improved handle design that pulls out quickly to telescope. The cyclone head was also redesigned for more efficient operation. There are also several other small improvements too numerous to mention.

Dyson DC15 Upright Vacuum (limited availability): The first Dyson vacuum with the ball design. This vacuum differs entirely from the DC14 and DC07, with exception of the cyclone technology. This model uses two motors, versus one in the DC07 and DC14. One large motor creates suction, while one smaller motor powers the brush bar. We feel the DC15 offers better performance across a wider range of floor types than any other Dyson vacuum, except the DC25.

Dyson DC16 Handheld (available in Animal model only): I must say we use this in our home nearly everyday. With a 2 year old, 1 dog, and 1 cat, we have multiple needs everyday. Seriously – until you have one, you do not realize how needed it really is. The unit runs for approx. 4 to 5 minutes continuously on a single charge. However, I find you can actually clean for 10 minutes from room to room, as you do not need it powered on the whole time. Great for picking-up bugs, pet hair, spilt cereal, crumbs dirt …. and so on.

Dyson DC17 Upright Vacuum (available in All Floor model only): This vacuum goes back to a two rear wheel design (no ball). The DC17 vacuum performs well on short cut loops, short piles, and berber carpets. You may wish to consider the DC15 or DC25 if you have deep or shag carpets. Also, the vacuum bed on the DC17 sits fairly close to the floor, which is great for suction, but you may find it difficult to pick-up large debris (like large bagel crumbs) from hard floor surfaces.

Dyson DC18 Upright Vacuum (no longer available / phased-out): Presently, this model is a great buy, but is being phased out by Dyson. This is a good overall performer on nearly any floor type, but has slightly less suction ability the larger models, such as the DC15, DC17, & DC25. However, when compared to most big box store vacuums, it clearly outperforms and out cleans hands-down. The unit also sells with a full 5 year Dyson warranty (like all Dyson Upright & canister vacuums).

  Dyson DC21 Canister Vacuum (no longer available // phased-out): If you prefer a canister with Dyson’s patented power and cyclonic cleaning ability, you can’t go wrong. The power brush head is easy to move from area to area and a bonus for stair cleaning. With Dyson’s 5 year warranty, it’s hard to beat.  

Dyson DC22 Motorhead: The DC22 models are the first to include Dyson’s new brushless motor technology. The motor is smaller and more efficient. Therefore, the DC22 models are smaller and lighter than the DC23. The DC22 models also offer 10 more Airwatts of suction power over the DC23 models. The Motorhead model is equipped with a motor driven brushbar and additional hard floor tool not found in the Turbinehead version. To summarize: The DC22’s are smaller, lighter, and more powerful!

Dyson DC22 Turbinehead: Same new brushless motor technology as found in the DC22 Motorhead. However, the Turbinehead does not offer the bare floor tool or motorized brushbar. The brushbar is driven by the airflow from the vacuum. Therefore, the Turbinehead is best suited for hard floor surfaces, low cut or tight knap berber carpets. The DC22 does offer 10 additional Airwatts of power over the DC23 models, along with being smaller and lighter.

Dyson DC23 Motorhead: This is the replacement for the DC21 model and was introduced to the US market before the DC22. Full size canister with motor driven brushbar. If you are looking for a full size canister with ultimate suction and deep carpet cleaning, this is the one for you. FYI: It also includes a hard floor tool not found in the DC23 Turbinehead.

Dyson DC23 Turbinehead: The Turbinehead was released along with the DC23 Motorhead. The main difference between the two vacuums; The Turbinehead does not have a motor driven brushbar, it is driven by the vacuum airflow. Therefore, the Turbinehead is better suited for hard floor surfaces and low cut or tight loop berber carpets.

Dyson DC24 Upright Vacuum: Small, agile, lightweight, and made to fill niche cleaning. If you require a vacuum for a cottage, small apartment, RV, motor home, or other small areas, it’s a cleaning mighty mouse.

  Dyson DC25 Upright Vacuum: I must say this is presently my overall favorite Dyson model. Dyson engineers have taken the best of every model and formed a nearly perfect vacuum model. Smaller, lighter, yet just as powerful as the largest Dyson model. Offering overall great cleaning ability on all floor types, this vacuum can fit nearly every floor cleaning need.  

Dyson DC28 Upright Vacuum: Your first question may be; what is the “Airmuscle Technology” used in the DC28? In simple terms, the technology helps keep optimal pressure between floor and vacuum head to prevent suctions loss. This is accomplished with a pneumatic actuator that works off pressure from the vacuum motor on medium and deep pile carpet settings. The technology also includes a cam system that allows for the brushbar bristles to sweep deep into the carpet to ensure a thorough cleaning.

Although the DC28 model does not include Ball technology, is does offer a new technology that ensures truly deep carpet cleaning. When compared to the DC25, we can assure that customers will be please with cleaning power of both models.

Model#KF60WE610, bought in November 2003, cost 4000.00. After 3 blubs TV worked fine, until May of 2009. Repair man checked TV and said that it was the light engine, that had been under a recall by Sony. Sony contacted, and after talking to a few people, offered me a new TV at a reduced price. I contacted ABC Warehouse about the TV offer, and they said they would beat that deal. Eight (8) months later I found a warranty with ABC Warehouse covering the Sony TV. They came out, looked at the TV and two (2) dayes later called me to come into their store to look at the new TV they have for me. A new Mitsubishi, WD60737, at NO COST. Thank You ABC Warehouse.

I bout LCD HDTV KF-50WE620 in 2006 (new). In June 2009 smell burning plastic, dark screen. “SONY”sad I have to change lamp which they sent to me for 260. In February 2010 same problem-bad smell of burning plastic. Rep. from “SONY”opened TV-inside lamp, plastic and wires around melted together. At my home I have all electronics from “SONY”-but no more. This is the WORST company for me, my friends and relatives.

I bought a Sony 46 inch TV, KDL-46Z4100 on Dec 19th 2008 from circuit city. 3 months after using the TV, Blue, green, pink and red lines started appearing on the TV screen. I contacted Sony Customer support and they gave me some trouble shooting steps but the issue was not resolved. I gave the TV to the Sony authorized repair center for repair while still in the 1 year warranty period. The service center had the TV for 5 weeks and they replaced the display and they said the TV is fixed. I got the TV back from the service center and I found that the issue is not fixed yet. At this time the warranty expired, but since the issue was discovered during the warranty period, sony agreed to extend the waranty for 6 more months until June 18th and fix the issue. I gave the TV for repair again to the service center, they had the TV for 4 weeks but they could not fix it. They say that they could not reproduce the issue at their test bench. I got the TV back from them and I could find the issue still there.

I contacted sony again and this time they wanted me to contact a different service center. I contacted the other service center and the technician there says the panel needs to be replaced. At this point I am tired of Sony and its service, I am not sure if the service center techicians are diagnosing the problem correctly and I am afraid I might run out of the extended waranty also before they fix the issue.

Another Sony WEGA (42″) customer with a failing product due to the optical block issue. Have written through email to top Director of Communications (and a member of the BBB Board as well) only to have my email forwarded off to their customer relations department. I’ve been offered a replacement television that is 40″, a 2009 discontinued model, for 440 plus tax. Currently fighting with Sony regarding their violation of the Implied Warranty of Merchantability.

Also pointing out to this Director at Sony that their offer for a replacement is, what I consider, to be a fraudulent practice of bait and switch and strong arming the consumer. Sony offers a discount TV, but then tells you there is a limited time to take advantage of the offer or the price may go up, or the replacement TV being offered may change. As a former Consumer Affairs Administrator dealing in Lemon Law I am astounded Sony is getting away with this.

I agree with other posts on this subject that point out the lack of a communication from Sony, the issue of a danger posed by the failure of this product, and no recall for the same. I am not finished with Sony and I will continue to flood this individual with emails. As most other posts point out, I would hesitate…no wait…stop dead in my tracks…to invest another dime with this company on any of their products. Once burned as they say. Cost of set in 2005: 2700.00 Cost of Repair: 900.00 Repair is not a fix, so a rather mute point. TV is a complete loss.

Hi all, I too have a pos Sony wega hdtv with a defective optical block. Mine is a KF-50WE610 and was purchased in 9/04. It started making blue dots in 12/09 I called Sony headquarters and was given a lame offer of a small discount off a new Sony tv. Now, I have over 4,000 invested in this set and felt like Sony was adding insult to injury so I started looking on the net for answers and found a facebook sight you all might be interested in. In the company’s sights is a market that is forecast to be worth $15 billion worldwide this year and expected to climb to $40.6 billion by 2007, according an estimate from market-research company IDC. Beyond that market, Sony also has a specific company in its sights: the current LCD TV leader, Sharp.

“Customers in Japan have a strong image that Sharp equals LCD,” says Makoto Kogure, vice president of Sony and president of the company’s TV group. “We’d like to break that.”

Sony believes that with the new televisions unveiled this week its technology can deliver a better picture and richer sound.

High End
At the top of the range is a 46-inch LCD model that the company will sell under its Qualia brand name. The model uses a panel produced by Samsung Electronics that is currently the world’s largest in commercial production and, perhaps more importantly, 1 inch larger than the biggest panel being produced by Sharp.

The Qualia 005 TV is also the first in the world to use an LED backlight, which Sony says helps the set deliver a superior picture with truer and richer colors.

That appears to be true. At the unveiling, the new Qualia set was displayed alongside a competitor’s model, unnamed but unmistakably a Sharp set because of its case style, and the Qualia set did appear to produce a better picture, at least for the sample images used in the demonstration.

“In the sense of technology we have completely caught up [with Sharp],” Kogure says.

Ken Kutaragi, executive deputy president and chief operating officer of Sony, went one further and said his company had not only caught up with Sharp, but overtaken it. With Sony committed to pushing more networking technologies and with its experience in semiconductor technologies, from now on Sharp will always be playing catch-up with Sony and not vice versa, he says.

Bells and Whistles
In addition to picture and audio quality, Sony is also trying to beat its rivals with an on-screen navigation technology called xross (pronounced ‘cross’) media bar, or XMB. The system first appeared in its PSX combined hard-drive video recorder/PlayStation 2 unit and attempts to simplify the dizzying selection of input sources, channels, and content available on a digital television.

Sony has plans to put XMB into other products, such as Blu-ray Disc recorders or its upcoming PSP handheld game device, to provide a common user interface onto the network, says Kutaragi, speaking on the sidelines of the TV launch event. Eventually, Kutaragi says, he would like to see a system developed so that new devices automatically appear on the menu of all compatible products as soon as they are plugged into a home network.

Alongside the new Qualia set, Sony also announced several other models including 26-inch, 32-inch, and 40-inch LCD models and 37-inch, 42-inch, and 50-inch PDP (Plasma Display Panel) models.

Future Technologies
Looking ahead, Kogure says he anticipates that both LCD and PDP will continue to sell in the flat-panel market because of their relative strengths and weaknesses. PDP has a cost advantage over LCD at the high end although at other sizes LCD will dominate, he says. That’s because LCD is superior at smaller sizes, it can support higher resolutions more easily and the color reproduction system can be more easily changed.

Other technologies are under development. Several companies are pursuing OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) screens, and Toshiba and Canon are researching SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display). Sony has been working on FED (Field Emission Display) technology for several years but that has yet to reach commercialization.

When I graduated from High School my parents gave me an interesting graduation present.  A Miele vacuum.  While they gave it to me to help with my troublesome allergies what really impressed me was the vacuums tank-like durability.  This vacuum withstood a beating.  I dragged it to college in Michigan for a year and then down to Florida when I worked with a relative.  When I returned to college in Virginia the vacuum went with me.  More than once I thought I had ruined the vacuum as it “followed” me down stairs or bounced around in the trunk of my car.  When the vacuum did die almost fifteen years later I realized that I had never taken it in once for service. When Miele says the test their vacuums to last for twenty years they may not have had a college student in mind as they probably assumed the vacuum would spend a great deal of its life in a closet but they succeeded.  While so many vacuums quickly find themselves back in the “service department” it is great to sell and recommend a product that not only is proven to work but also is built to last.

When I graduated from High School my parents gave me an interesting graduation present.  A Miele vacuum.  While they gave it to me to help with my troublesome allergies what really impressed me was the vacuums tank-like durability.  This vacuum withstood a beating.  I dragged it to college in Michigan for a year and then down to Florida when I worked with a relative.  When I returned to college in Virginia the vacuum went with me.  More than once I thought I had ruined the vacuum as it “followed” me down stairs or bounced around in the trunk of my car.  When the vacuum did die almost fifteen years later I realized that I had never taken it in once for service. When Miele says the test their vacuums to last for twenty years they may not have had a college student in mind as they probably assumed the vacuum would spend a great deal of its life in a closet but they succeeded.  While so many vacuums quickly find themselves back in the “service department” it is great to sell and recommend a product that not only is proven to work but also is built to last.
